Final Day Action

A total of 91 players returned for Day 2 of the event, with all guaranteed a minimum cash payout of KRW 1,380,000 (~USD 1,030).

With the money bubbles already burst in the opening flights and the mystery bounties kicked in from the start of play, the action was fast and furious from the offset.

In less than four hours of play, the original 91 players had been whittled down to the final two tables of 16, with most of the top bounty prizes already scratched off the board.

Kunal Patni.jpg Kunal Patni

India’s Kunal Patni came into the day with a commanding chip lead as the only player to cross the 700k mark, with no other player breaking the 600k level. Unfortunately, he went short-stacked by the time the field reached the final two tables after doubling up a number of his opponents and was eventually eliminated in 16th place.

Zhanyu He bagged the highest bounty award of KRW 25,600,000 (USD 19,100) as he went on a head-hunting tear, racking up KRW 30,000,000 (~USD 22,390) in total bounty prizes, which was in fact more than he collected for finishing in fourth place.

China’s Lei Yang was sent home as the final table bubble boy when he called off with jack-ten and couldn’t improve against Daniel Lei’s queen-eight.

China’s Zhihao Liu came into the final table as the chip leader, holding a solid lead over the rest of the pack, with his compatriot Hu Zheng in second.

Final Table Action

Watanabe Wagu was the first player sent home from the final table, with his queen-jack jam running into Zheng’s king-queen and getting no help from the board.

Jianfeng Sun, after coming into the final table as one of the short stacks, went on a tear, finding multiple double-ups to jump into third in chips.

Next to be sent packing in eighth was Teng Ma, whose ace-queen unfortunately found Abiko sitting there with ace-king, with no help from the poker Gods.

Shortly after the players returned from a break, Wenguang Yu was sent to the rail in seventh place when he called off his short stack with nine-eight from the big blind and found Daniel Lei with ace-ten. Lei turned two pair to leave Yu drawing dead.

Zhanyu He was sent packing in sixth place shortly after Yu, with his pocket deuces running into Sun’s pocket jacks. He was pretty much dead on the flop when Sun spiked a set, and it was all over when he filled up on the turn.

Zheng was next to go in fifth place when he mis-timed a re-jam with ten-six, only to run into Abiko’s ace-king, which flopped an ace to leave Zheng drawing dead on the turn.

Sun and Lei then took turns doubling through each other to stay in the title race, but after Abiko sent Liu home in fourth place, he took a commanding lead over his two opponents. Liu called off with queen-six and couldn’t get any help against Abiko’s ace-five.

After doubling up Sun once more, Lei was left on the short stack and couldn’t turn things around. He was unlucky not to get back into the contest when his king-nine was outdrawn by Abiko’s jack-seven, sending Lei to the rail as the bronze-place finisher and forcing play to go heads-up.

Heads-Up Play

The heads-up match between Abiko and Sun started with Abiko holding a near four-to-one chip lead, but this didn’t last long as Sun soon doubled up and eventually found himself with the chip lead.

After the lead switched hands multiple times, the players took a break to discuss a potential deal. Following a lengthy discussion, the deal was agreed, with Abiko being crowned the champion and taking home KRW 59,800,000 (~USD 44,627) along with the APT Championship ticket and the trophy.

Jianfeng Sun limped on the button and Daisuke Abiko checked his option.

Abiko check-called a 400,000 bet from Sun on the K 5 4 flop and then both players checked on the 3 turn.

The 6 completed the board and Abiko checked a final time. Sun put a bet of 950,000 into the middle and Abiko called.

Sun revealed 5 4 for a flopped two pair and Abiko sent his cards into the muck.

Daisuke Abiko made up from the button and Jianfeng Sun checked his option from the big blind.

The flop came 2 4 K and Sun checked to Abiko, who bet out for 500,000. Sun made the call.

On the A turn Sun checked once more, and Abiko fired out a second bullet of 1,400,000. Sun flat-called once again.

The river brought the 9 , and Sun checked to Abiko for a third time. Abiko thought for a while before he moved all-in. Sun didn't take long to release his hand, and the pot was sent to Abiko with no showdown.

After taking a small pot from Jianfeng Sun in the hand prior, Daisuke Abiko shoved on the button and Sun called all in for 3,175,000 total.

Jianfeng Sun: A K

Daisuke Abiko: Q T

Abiko was looking to connect with the board to wrap things up, but the 4 J 8 7 6 runout improved neither player — keeping Sun best with his ace to double-up back into contention.

A few hands later, Sun limped on the button and Abiko checked his option in the big blind.

Abiko checked to Sun, who bet 400,000 on the K K 4 flop. Abiko then check-raised to 1,100,000 and Sun called.

Sun called a 1,400,000 barrel from Abiko on the T turn and then Abiko checked after the K brought three kings on board.

Sun announced he was all in for about 3,700,000 total and Abiko didn't take long to send his cards into the muck.

Sun triumphantly tabled 9 7 face up for a stone bluff and was awarded the large pot to take over the chip lead.

Abiko Daisuke raised to 600,000 from the button, and action folded to Daniel Lei in the big blind who three-bet all-in for 875,000. Daisuke snap-called to put Lei at risk.

Daniel Lei: K 9

Abiko Daisuke: J 7

Lei was ahead and looking good for a double up and nothing changed on the 3 8 4 flop but when the dealer flipped over the J as the turn Daisuke stormed into the lead.

No help for Lei on the Q brick of a river and he was sent to the rail as the third place finisher.

After several rounds of hands resulting in no postflop action, Jianfeng Sun shoved for 2,550,000 on the button and Daniel Lei also moved all in for more from the small blind. Daisuke Abiko got out of the way in the big blind and a showdown was held.

Jianfeng Sun: Q T

Daniel Lei: A 9

It was a fair fight, although Lei held a slight advantage with his ace. The T J 6 8 2 runout improved Sun to a pair of tens for the double-up to keep three-handed play going for at least a bit longer.

Jianfeng Sun shoved from the small blind and Daniel Lei took a peek at his hole cards before announcing "Call," in the big blind for just over 2,000,000 total.

Daniel Lei: A Q

Jianfeng Sun: J 6

The 2 9 8 flop was safe for Lei, but Sun got a sweat after the T turn improved him to an open-ended straight draw.

The 2 bricked out on the river, however, and Lei was awarded the double-up.

Just a few hands later, Sun raised to 625,000, leaving himself 300,000 behind, first to act and Lei shoved on the button. Action folded back to Sun and he called to put himself at risk.

Jianfeng Sun: 8 5

Daniel Lei: A Q

Lei was favored with ace-queen again, but the 8 2 J K 3 runout paired Sun's eight and he doubled up back through Lei.
