Flight B of the TWD 70,000 APT Main Event came to an end with Japan's Jun Obara sitting on top of the leaderboard after he cruised through the field and ran up a stack of 312,100. A total of 260 entries were recorded and 118 players managed to survive the day and bring their chips into Day 2.

Obara held the chip lead from level four and constantly grew his stack to finish on top of the pack, and never once did he relinquish his position at the summit of the leaderboard. The Japanese player has almost $1,700,000 in live tournament earnings and sits seventh on Japan's All-Time Money List.

Singapore's Zhonghuan Dai (246,400) and the Philippines' Jonald Garcia (243,700) rounded out the top three stacks. Thailand's Phachara Wongwichit bought into the event late but still had time to accumulate almost five starting stacks after he bagged up 190,400 chips. Wongwichit had a stellar series in the 2023 edition of APT Taipei as he won a Single Day High Roller and also took down the flagship APT High Roller for TWD 4,800,900 ($156,930).

Napat Chokejindachai

Napat Chokejindachai, who finished third in the APT Incheon Main Event last summer, bagged up a healthy stack of 135,000 chips in his pursuit of another Main Event final table. The Thai actor and TV host, nicknamed Toptapp, has been taking poker very seriously recently and his hard work has been paying off at the tables as he has accumulated over $200,000 in live tournament earnings over the past eighteen months.

Hong Kong's Edward Yam, who has already won a trophy this series in Event #7: Turbo High Roller, also found a bag for the day and will bring 94,200 chips into Day 2. Yam also finished third in the APT Super High Roller earlier this series for a career-best score of TWD 4,071,000 (~$128,935).

Other notables to make it through were Hirokazu Kobayashi (173,200), Terry Nguyen (167,100), Younghee Park (155,600), Sofia Lovgren Fullmer (109,600), James Mendoza (76,100), Sumit Sapra (75,300), and Stanley Weng (35,300).

In the last 7 hands of the day, Ryo Kakazu and Kuan Ting He were involved in a big pot.

When we got to the table the board was showing A 9 Q 7 Q , and Kakazu had fired a huge overbet of 15,000 into a pot of around 8,500.

He then shoved all in, covering Kakazu's stack. Kakazu snap-called and showed A A for a boat.

He showed K Q for trips.

South Korea's Younghee Park had opened from middle position and was facing a 3-bet to 7,500 by Phachara Wongwichit of Thailand. Park called to see a flop.

The flop came 9 J 4 and Park checked; Wongwichit fired a continuation bet 9,000. Park stuck around to see the turn.

The turn was the 6 which was checked again by Park. Wongwichit now decided to fire a second barrel of 15,000 into the pot. Park called again.

After Park checked the T on the river, Wongwichit unloaded the clip and fired a third and final bullet of 35,000. Park took some time but ultimately settled on a call. Wongwichit turned over J J for a flopped set of jacks and took down a pot over 100,000.

Flight B of the Main Event is almost a wrap, but just before the markets closed Christopher “Bigtime” Mateo found a double up.

Two days ago, the Filipino pro won an APT TIK TOCK BOOM Event, and he now was all in for 22,000. His opponent Toshio Kataoka was in the tank.

The board read 5 2 6 9 9 .

Kataoka seemed thorn to call but carefully shoved calling chips into the middle. Mateo showed 9 8 for running trips, while Kataoka flashed K T for ten high.

Mateo, “You call me with king high? Wauw!” An important pot for Mateo what will end the day above starting stack.

Taiwan's Tung Jung Wu opened to 2,500 from early position and got called by Terry Nguyen on the button, and Yung Bing Chu in the small blind, and they went to the flop three-way

The flop of T T 8 got checked through see the 7 come on the turn. This time, Chu bet out for 6,000 and got called by both Wu and Nguyen,

When the river came the Q , Chu and Wu now checked to Nguyen, who fired out 17,000. This bet prompted two quick folds from his opponents, and Nguyen picked up a big pot towards the end of the day.

Kim Wah Chiu raised from the cut-off to 2,500 and Stanley Weng made it 7,500 to go, Chiu quickly 4-bet to 24,000, and Weng got all his chips in.

Chiu made the call to put Weng at risk.

Weng did not expect he was running into AAs and looking for some help, but the runout of Q Q 2 J T did not favor him and he will be eliminated.

But right after this hand Weng already buy-in for his second bullet try to chip up at the late stage of Main Event Day 1.

On a board that read A 9 5 4 we saw Frankie Cucchiara bet 6,500 and the Philippines' Jonald Garcia make the call.

The river K filled out the board and Cucchiara thought for a while before making a bet of 12,000, leaving just under 10,000 chips behind. Garcia tried to piece together the story that Cucchiara was telling after some time in the tank, he made the call.

Cucchiara flipped 8 8 but he was pipped by the Q 9 of Garcia who flopped a pair of nines.

Yen Liang Yao made a large thirty-big-blind open-shove and was called by Tan Luan Le.
