MANILA, PHILIPPINES, February 11, 2025 — Playing out in the Grand Ballroom of the prestigious Crowne Plaza Galleria and run in partnership with the Metro Card Club, the APT Manila Classic 2025 has reached the mid-way point of the festival.

Close to half of the 100 scheduled tournaments are now in the books, meaning 45 newly minted APT champions now the proud owners of some spectacular silverware – or goldware in the case of some of the trophies.

Some of the latest champions include Serbia’s Andrija Robovic, winner of the brand new Event #32 High Roller - Ultra Stack, and the freshly crowned Event #42: Baby Superstar champion Zhen Chen of China – both of which you can read about in more detail in the side event press release.

However, it was the PHP 60,000 (~USD 1,030) Main Event attracting the majority of the crowd, with the final two starting flights playing out over the day and bringing the total number of entries up to 1,146.

With late registration remaining open until the start of Day 2 at 11am local time (GMT+8) on Wednesday, February 12, this number is expected to grow further, and all prize pool and payout information will be released following the commencement of the action.

Both remaining starting flights came with six 30-minute levels and four 40-minute levels each; Flight C got the Main Event action underway at 11am local time and attracted 266 entries (218 unique), with Flight D commencing at 6pm and drawing a further 190 entries (156 unique) – a total of 119 players made it through from Flight C and 88 players successfully circumnavigated Flight D to join the 67 Flight A and 105 Flight B survivors on Day 2.

While a combined total of 379 players survived the four opening flights, two players from Flight A qualified twice—the Netherland’s Joris Michl and Singapore’s Ben Hong Ker—meaning their smallest stack will be removed from play and a total of 377 combined survivors will be returning to battle it out at the baize on Day 2.

Flight C

South Korea’s Kwonhwan Mun clawed his way to the top of the Flight C leaderboard after bagging up a stack of 288,200, with France’s Olivier Serrie (226,600), and Australia’s Joshua Duce (223,900) rounding out the top three.

Two two-time former APT Main Event champions in the form of Norway’s Henrik Tollefsen (202,200) and local Mike Takayama (173,600) both bagged top ten stacks to join fellow double Main Event champion Lester Edoc on Day 2, with the latter making it through on Monday’s Flight B, and the trio will all be looking to make tour history by becoming the first player to win a record third APT Main Event title.

Natural8 India Ambassador Kunal Patni harnessed the momentum generated by his fifth APT title win in Event #9: Mystery Bounty Hunter – Sponsored by Natural8 to also bag a top ten stack, finishing the flight with 184,500 in chips, with the top ten Flight C stacks as follows:

The Philippines Moses Saquing was another former Main Event champion to make it through, bagging up a stack of 157,900, and he will be looking to recreate the run of form that saw him take down the APT Manila 2022 Main Event.

Other local players to run well were William Ysmael who fought his way through with 106,000 in chips, APT Manila 2024 Main Event finalists Ferdinand Lu (82,400), and John Costiniano (80,600) both kept their dreams of a repeat final table appearance alive, and the Philippines Kim Enriquez, who topped Flight C of the last APT Manila Main Event back in November, also made the cut with a stack of 77,400.

Former APT Manila Super High Roller champion William Teoh (67,300) was another to make the Day 2 cut, as was fellow high roller John Matsuda of Japan (48,800).

Austria’s Matthias Lipp led the 88 Flight D survivors, concluding the action with a stack of 345,000. Lipp was the only player from the last three flights to bag up over 300K in chips, which will put him second in the overall pecking order coming into Day 2, just behind Flight A front runner Tomoki Terashima of Japan who will be returning in pole position with a stack of 347,300.

Lithuania’s Andrius Janca will be returning for Day 2 with the third largest stack of 338,000 after bagging the second largest Flight A stack, with all remaining players sitting below the 300,000-mark.

Vietnamese poker vlogger Ngoc Huyen Quach, aka “Gemmy” finished second in the Flight D chip counts, which makes her the deepest stacked female player out of the 12 coming into Day 2 with a stack of 223,000, and she was the only other player from the final flight to bag up over 200,000.
