## APT Hanoi

Asia's most prestigious poker tour returns to Hanoi, Vietnam for the upcoming [APT Hanoi](https://www.theasianpokertour.com/series/apt-hanoi-2023) from February 3-12 held at the VSOP Club, located on the 6th floor of the Viet Tower Building, 1 Thai Ha Street, Dong Da, Hanoi.

The 10-day series features the VND 27.5M (~USD $1,100) buy-in Main Event which comes with a VND 10B (~USD $420,000) prize pool guarantee. The poker festival boasts a total of VND 20B (~USD $840,000) in guaranteed prize money through 41 events.

## Vietnam's Phan Minh Duc Leads APT Hanoi Kickoff Day 1A

It was the ₫8,000,000+800,000 (~$345) Event #1 APT Kickoff kickstarting the series action at 11am (GMT+7), with Day 1A drawing 242 entries (171 unique).

With the ₫1.5BN (~$64,500) guarantee reached and breached on the opening flight, Day 1B played concurrently with a slightly later start time of 4pm.

This saw a further 210 players (157 unique) enter the fray, with all 23 of the VSOP Club's tournament tables in action.

This brought the total number of entries up to 452, ballooning the **prize pool to ₫3,507,520,000 (~$147,315)**.

All respective Day 1 survivors are guaranteed a share of the prize pool, with a min-cash good for ₫15,210,000 (~$639).

However, it is the **₫683,330,000 (~$28,700) top prize** all will have their eye on.

With the top 15 percent of the field from each respective starting flight making Day 2 and the money, a total of 30 players made the cut from Day 1A, with a further 31 making in through from Day 1B.

Those 61 players will return for the second and final day, which plays out at 11am on Saturday, February 4.

The man leading the charge is Vietnam's **Phan Minh Duc**, who topped the Day 1A counts with a stack of 1,060,000.

Duc will be returning for Day 2 with the overall chip lead, with China's **Xiaohua Fu** bagging the second largest stack of 925,000 putting him second in the overall pecking order.

Russia's **German Bukharov** (767,000) rounds out the top three, with the top ten Day 1A stacks as follows:

## Germany's Martin Finger Wins Single Day High Roller

While the Kickoff was the first event to get underway, the first silverware of the series was awarded in the ₫40,000,000+4,000,000 **Event #2 Single Day High Roller**.

It was **Martin Finger** the man to claim the lion's share of the **₫388,000,000 (~$16,685) prize pool.**

The German player triumphed over the 10-strong field (7 unique) to take the ₫186,240,000 (~$8,008) top prize, defeating Vietnam's **Tran Huy Hoang** heads-up.

Finger – who boasts a slew of live tournament titles and over $7.8 million in live tournament winnings – claimed his maiden APT title, while Hoang earned ₫124,160,000 (~$5,339) for his runner-up finish.

The UK's **Dexter Turnbull**– 3rd for ₫77,600,000 (~$3,259) – was the only other player to make the money.

## Lithuania's Karolis Cekauskas Claims APT's First-ever Omaholic Trophy

A brand new addition to the APT for the 2023 season, the ₫4,000,000+400,000 **Event #4 Omaholic (PL Pre/NL Omaha High) – Hyper Turbo** saw 21 players (17 unique) hit the felt, generating a **₫81,480,000 (~$3,422) prize pool**.

It was Lithuania's **Karolis Cekauskas** the man to emerge victorious and claim the first-ever Omaholic trophy after twenty 10-minute levels.

Cekauskas defeated China's **Xixiang Luo** heads-up to take the **₫34,220,000 (~$1,437) top prize**, claiming his first live poker title and maiden APT title in the process.

Luo earned ₫22,810,000 (~$958) for his runner-up finish. A total of four players made the money, with the tournament paying out as follows:

) (VSOP) and sponsored by [Natural8](https://www.natural8.com/) – has crowned the first of its marquee event champions, with Vietnam's **Phan Minh Duc** claiming the **Event #1 APT Kickoff** title.

Duc returned for the second and final day with the overall chip lead after topping the Day 1A counts. The Vietnamese player bested a 452-strong field, defeating India's **Zarvan Tumboli** heads-up to claim his maiden APT title.

Duc earned **₫520,520,000 (~$22,382) for first place** – his largest career score to date – after the final three players cut an ICM deal.

The Philippines' **David Erquiaga** – who held the lead but wanted to enter the **Event #6 Superstar Invitational** – locked up ₫499,010,000 (~$21,457) and took third place with his chips taken out of play.

Duc and Tomboli were guaranteed payouts of ₫430,520,000 and ₫405,000,000 respectively, opting to leave ₫90,000,000 and the trophy and title on the table to play for, with the official eight-handed final table paying out as follows:

#### Final Table Action

A total of 61 players returned for Day 2, with Duc the man in pole position. By the time the field was thinned down to the official eight-handed final table Vietnam's **Do Duc Hieu** had climbed into the chip lead, with Duc dropping down to fifth in the overall pecking order, coming in with a stack of 1.6 million – the equivalent of nine big blinds.

Russia's **Artem Utevskii** was the first of the final table casualties, his ace-queen offsuit outdrawn by Erquiaga's king-queen suited on the fifth hand played.

The short-stacked **Airidas Stazys** became the next of the paying casualties two hands later, falling in a battle of the blinds against Hieu after the latter hit a double gutshot draw on the river holding king-five to crack Stazys' eight-seven offsuit flopped pair of sevens.

Duc climbed up to fourth in the counts on the eleventh hand played; the Vietnamese player doubling up through Russia's **German Bukharov** in a blind-on-blind confrontation.

The two got all the chips in pre-flop holding ace-five offsuit and ace-deuce suited respectively, with Duc running out four to a straight to leave Bukharov on life support with a single big blind.

Despite earning a double-up through Duc three hands later, the Vietnamese player administered the coup de grace the following hand; Bukharov got his last five big blinds in with ace-four offsuit, and Duc woke up with aces to bring the field down to five.

#### Short-handed

The short-stacked **Evgenii Chernyi** departed the hand after, his pre-flop all-in with queen-ten offsuit falling afoul of Duc's ace-king offsuit. Chernyi hit the rail in fifth and Duc climbed into the chip lead.

**Do Duc Hieu** went from second in the counts to bottom the very next hand. Hieu opened the action with ace-ten offsuit and called Erquiaga's all-in shove, with the latter – holding pocket fives – flopping a full house to seize the chip lead.

Hieu called the last of his stack off from the big blind with seven-six offsuit the following hand after a Tumboli raise, with the latter's ace-ten enough to take play three-handed.

After the ICM deal and Erquiaga's departure, that left two, with Duc holding a lead he would not relinquish – 6.4 million in chips to Tomboli's 4.1 million.

#### Heads-up

The heads-up confrontation lasted five hands, with Duc winning all but one of them.

Tomboli won the first hand with a pre-flop three-bet all-in and Duc claimed the second with a pre-flop button raise.

The third hand played saw Tomboli drop to 1.3 million after getting a nine-high bluff picked off by Duc's bottom pair.

Duc won the fourth hand with a pre-flop raise, and the fifth hand of heads-up would be the last of the tournament.

Tomboli moved all-in pre-flop from the small blind with queen-jack offsuit for his last five big blinds, and Duc called with ten-eight offsuit.

The final board ran out 7♠–7♥–10♦–9♠–10♥ to grant the Vietnamese player the win.

## Mike Takayama Leads Final Eight in Superstar Invitational

All the action was not confined to the **Kickoff**, with the ₫100,000,000+7,000,000 **Event #6 APT/VSOP Superstar Invitational** getting underway at 11:30am (GMT+7).

This saw 46 players (34 unique) fight it out at the felt, all looking to stake their claim to a share of the **₫4,462,000,000 (~$191,866) prize pool**.

Familiar faces like Germany's **Martin Finger**, the Philippines' **Mike Takayama**, **Lester Edoc**, and **David Erquiaga**, Australia's **Tu Thanh Le**, and Singapore's **Benjamin Sai**, and **Norbert Koh** all joined the action as play progressed.

Of these, only Takayama was able to go the distance and the Filipino will be returning in the best of positions to take the **₫1,517,080,000 (~$65,234) top prize** after bagging up the chip lead.

The two opening flights of third of the series' marquee events – the ₫9,000,000+900,000 **Event #5 Mystery Bounty Hunter** – are in the books.

Day 1A played concurrently with the **Kickoff,** with action getting underway at 11am (GMT+7) and drawing 235 runners.

Day 1B attracted a further 187 entries to bring the total field up to 419 (231 unique) in total, generating a **₫3,657,845,000 (~$157,287) prize pool** – including ₫1,257,000,000 in bounties.

A total of 31 players survived the Day 1A maelstrom, with Vietnam's **Tien Trung Tran** bagging the chip lead after concluding play with a stack of 726,000 – putting him in pole position.

Other big Day 1A stacks included China's **Kelvin Tang** (592,000), and Malaysia's **Soon Lee Sia** (559,000).

A further 27 players made it through the Day 1B meat grinder, with Russia's **Nikolai Severtsev** bagging up the largest stack of the second starting flight.

Severtsev concluded play with 627,000 in chips, putting him second in the counts overall.

Russia's **Mikhail Radchenko** (564,000) and Sweden's **Jonas Magdalinski** (486,000) rounded out the top three Day 1B stacks.

) – has the second of its marquee event champions, with the Philippines' **Mike Takayama** going wire-to-wire to win the inaugural **Superstar Invitational**.

Takayama is no stranger to success at the tournament tables, with this victory granting the Filipino professional his 16th APT title. This impressive list of APT accolades include two main event titles and six high roller titles, and his career tournament winnings now sit at over $2.48 million.

Just eight of the initial 46-strong field returned to action for the second and final day. Takayama came in with a chip lead he would not relinquish to claim the **₫1,457,080,000 (~$62,654) top prize** after all eight finalists opted for a bubble saver deal, meaning seven of them made the money.

That left Vietnam's **Duc Anh Nguyen** the only remaining finalist to depart empty-handed, but he would not get lonely on the rail.

Takayama was an unstoppable force at the final table, gunning down six out of his seven remaining opponents in quick succession to give Nguyen some company, with the tournament wrapped up after four 40-minute levels.

While Takayama's heads-up opponent – Vietnam's **Julien Tran** – put up a valiant effort, the Filipino players' mountainous 3-to-1 chip lead proved too steep of an obstacle to surmount.

Linh made his maiden APT title win a memorable one, defeating a 419-strong (231 unique) field to take the lion's share of the **₫3,657,845,000 (~$157,287) total prize pool** – which includes ₫1,257,000,000 in bounties.

Linh bested fellow countryman **Van Phu Nguyen**to take the **₫473,750,000 (~$20,371) top prize**, claiming three bounties in the process – including the top scalp worth ₫293,900,000 (~$12,637) – to bring his total haul for the tournament up to ₫811,050,000 (~$34,593).

Nguyen collected ₫299,350,000 for his runner-up finish, plus a further ₫62,600,000 in bounties to bring his total windfall up to ₫361,950,000 (~$15,563).

This generated a **₫1,658,700,000 (~$71,324) prize pool**, easily beating the ₫500 million guarantee.

It was **Yucheng Xiao** the man to emerge on top, beating Russia's **German Bukharov** heads-up to take the **₫332,510,000 (~$14,298) top prize** and earn the prestige of becoming the inaugural **Sunday Special** champion. Xiao also claimed his maiden live title and APT title in the process.

Some of Asia's best and brightest were in attendence, with players of the calibre of the Philippines' **David Erquiaga**, Malaysia's **Raiden Kan**, China's **Xixiang Luo**, South Korea's **Steve Joonhee Yea**, India's **Kunal Patni** and Singapore's **Jun Hao Wu** and **Zhao Feng** in the running.

There was also some international flair in the field, with Germany's **Martin Finger**, Russia's **Maxim Sorokin**, Colombia's **Andres Vasquez**, and the UK's **William Kang** also in contention.

Add in two former two-time APT Main Event champions in the form of
the Philippines' **Lester Edoc**, and **Mike Takayama** and the opening flight boasted plenty of talent.

Of these aforementioned poker luminaries, it was **Xixiang Luo** the man to climb to the top of the chip counts, bagging up a stack of 388,200 after the ten 60-minute levels played out.

Russia's **Maxim Sorokin** also enjoyed a stellar day at the felt, bagging the second-largest stack of 330,700.

Vietnam's **Hai Nam Hoang** (267,600) rounded out the top three, with the top ten Day 1A stacks as follows:

Another new addition to the APT schedule, the ₫15,000,000+1,500,000 **Event #16 Monday Madness - Single Re-Entry** drew 23 entries (22 unique), generating a **₫334,650,000 (~$14,389) prize pool**.

It was Canada's **Duncan Son** the man to take the honor of becoming the inaugural **Monday Madness** champion, defeating Russia's **German Bukharov** heads-up to claim his second APT title.

The Canadian received **₫114,423,000 (~$4,920) for first place** after the final three players decided on an ICM deal that saw Son guaranteed a payout of ₫103,046,000, Schell locking up ₫95,667,000 and Bukharov receiving ₫85,000,000.

The trio then opted to shorten the level length from 45 minutes to 15 minutes and play it out for the spare ₫11,377,000 and the title and trophy.

Bukharov, making his third final table appearance in as many days, was once again forced to settle for second place, with Schell the only other player to make the money.
