Lukasz Jankowski

Lukasz Jankowski came through the final opening flight of the APT Main Event at the top of the pack after bagging up 200,800 chips to take into Day 2. A total of 111 entries (89 unique) were recorded which brings the total of Main Event entries up to 648 with registration still open until the start of play tomorrow.

Jankowski does have two APT final tables to his name with that first title still proving to be elusive but the Polish player has put himself in a great spot here in the Main Event.

Malaysia's Gabriel Chye and Thailand's Chanasit Sangrungkongka shared second place after both managed to accumulate exactly 190,000 chips. Chye scored his first two APT cashes this series by finishing fourth in the APT Kickoff and third in a Turbo event for a combined score of VND 246,900,000. Sangrungkongka has only one tracked live tournament cash and that came in the record-breaking Zodiac Classic in Taipei where he finished seventh for TWD $219,700 (~$7,160).

Gabriel Chye

Former APT Main Event champion Vamerdino Magsakay also brings through a stack of 97,300 as he looks to become part of an elite club consisting of two-time Main Event champions. The Filipino player has five APT titles to his name which include an astonishing run of winning three Single Day High Roller events on consecutive days at APT Phu Quoc last year.

Martijn Gerrits found a bag and will take 63,200 into the second day of play as he seeks his sixth APT title. Gerrits won the No Limit Hold'em - Deuces Wild event earlier in the series for VND 49,096,000 and adds that to his live tournament earnings of over $1,500,000.

Other notables that made it through were Victor Em (134,000), Armon Van Wijk (124,800), Zhi Wen Deng (114,200), Hayato Kitajima (83,900), and Florent Remi (40,500).

Will there be any late drama?

The hand starts with Nguyen Duy opening to 2,500 from the hijack with Jongsun Won then putting in the tiniest of 3-bets to 4,000. The action got back to Duy who made a 4-bet to 11,500 and Won made the call to see a flop.

On the monotone 2 J 6 flop, despite the intense pre-flop action, both players checked to see a turn card.

When the T hit the turn Duy checked again but Won didn't check back this time, instead he fired 8,400 which Duy called after some deliberation.

A river Q completed the board and Duy checked it over to Won, who took around 30 seconds before checking it back.

Duy tabled A Q for a rivered pair of queens and Won slam-dunked his cards face down onto the table in sheer frustration.

We never got to see Won's cards but it's assumed that he was rivered in that pot.

When we got to the table Nino Pansier was already standing up and was in desperate need of a miracle to win this hand, he was all in for his last 17,000, and his opponent, who was Sunggeun Kim had him dominated.

The board ran out 6 Q 5 4 3 and Pansier was eliminated from the tournament in the final level of the day.

So far there have been 109 entries with 62 still remaining in the field.

When 15 minutes are left on the clock the tournament director will draw a card to see how many hands will be played before the remaining players bag up their chips ready for Day 2 tomorrow.

Zhi Wen Deng

By the time we got to this hand the flop was already out and showed K 8 A . Ramesh Thotapalli checked over to Zhi Wen Deng who bet 2,500, Thotapalli went for the check-raise to 6,300 and got called by Deng.

The turn came a board pairing A and Thotapalli continued with his story and bet out for 11,500, Deng came along with just a call.

On a seemingly blank 3 river Thotapalli fired again for 12,400 and Deng called very quickly and got shownA T by Thotapalli for trip aces. The Mystery Bounty Hunter Deng has fallen below starting stack and is struggling to bring a stack through into Day 2.

Huynh Thanh Dien

Tarush Gupta was on the prowl for another elimination after he put Huynh Thanh Dien at risk as the two got the money in pre-flop.

The flop of 2 3 7 kept Dien in control but a K turn meant Gupta took the lead and left Dien on the brink of elimination.

It's not over 'til it's over though and the A hit the river giving Dien a higher pair meaning Gupta's request for another elimination was Dien-ied.

Chak Lam Tsang raised the button to 2,700 and Tarush Gupta moved all in from the small blind for around 90,000, this was enough to cover Tsang who only had around 25,000. Tsang made the call and the cards were on their back.

The board ran out favorable for Gupta as it came 8 6 9 J 2 and Gupta won the pot, Gupta had made the same move the previous hand with just ten-high and lost to ace-queen. Tsang was visably infuriated from getting unlucky.

Nguyen Minh Hoai An limped in pre-flop and Nopparat Kongjai followed suit. The action around to Keita Minami who made it 3,500 and only An made the call.

On a flop of A Q 8 An checked it over to Minami and the Japanese player fired a continuation bet of 3,500. An wasn't done just yet and made the call to see a turn card.

When the T landed on the turn, An checked again over to Minami who decided to check it back and see a free river card.

An quickly led out for 7,700 on the 3 turn and Minami had already flicked his cards back in the dealer's direction before the bet could be counted.

After just eliminating a player, Lawrence Huang wasn't done and seemed to be on a one-man mission to thin down the field.

Huang had bet enough on the river to put Mai Van Sau all in with the Vietnamese player thinking about his decision on the 7 7 T 9 4 board. Eventually, Sau did put in the rest of his chips and that would be the last time he ever saw them as Huang tabled K J for a rivered flush to beat the 8 9 of Sau.
